What our server records
Like every web server, ours writes technical log lines (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to keep the site running and to defend it against attacks. Logs are kept for a short time and are not used to identify readers.
Stored on your device
Only your own settings: whether sound effects are on and whether PAUL reads along. They stay in your browser (local storage) and are never sent to us.
PAUL’s voice
When you ask PAUL to read, the text of that story is sent to our network’s voice service on richtvx.com, which turns it into speech. No personal data is sent with it.
Content from other services
Pictures load from richtvx.com and usintelnews.com, satellite images from Esri (server.arcgisonline.com) and fonts from Google Fonts. Like any website, these services receive your IP address when your browser fetches the file. Links to Google Maps Street View open Google’s own site under Google’s terms.
If you write to us, we use your message and address only to answer you. Tell us if you want it deleted.

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, at info@voiceofamericanews.com.
